Author Notes

9th Dec 2018, 8:14 PM I hope Kat doesn’t seem like a sap to you guys just because she’s so emotional. I think most people would be in this situation. Sorry if the lighting/shading is weird, I’ll try to learn more about that. There should be just ONE more page and then it’s on to chapter 2

Comments:

9th Dec 2018, 11:38 PM XD it's so... idk... XD that Evan totally cannot follow her emotional... outbreak?

IMHO the coloring/lighting/shading is definitely improved. Soft warm indoors light :)

What I find weird is that Kat's mouth is much under her left eye. It didn't bother me on the previous page but now that the coloring and shading looks much better (to me), it does. (Edit: Typo removed)
10th Dec 2018, 12:22 AM Thank you for the feedback and for the compliments! So would you prefer I drew her mouth higher in a profile view?
10th Dec 2018, 1:07 AM Not higher, more in the middle. In Panel 1, it seems like Kat has two facial expressions in one face: I can cover her teeth and see her lips a bit open, she looks pensive. If I cover these lips with a fingertip, she seems to have the widest overjoying(?) grin on her face. (I think one can get away with an asymmetrically placed mouth as long as is doesn't lead to "two mouths in one face", at that point it gets weird. I'm a little tempted to try my poor "faker/editor skills" and remove Kat's open lips in the 1st panel to see if that helps... tomorrow if you want.)
Also, I just checked, it looks a bit less weird in the last panel of Page 4 (maybe because her lips are less prominent there) but it's there, too. With the mostly flat coloring, the artwork looks IMHO more stylized on page 4, especially compared to the latest page, so it was less of an issue back then. Now where the lighting/coloring/shading looks IMHO better and more realistic, the "two mouths"-effect bothers me more.
10th Dec 2018, 1:41 AM Interesting. I’m not quite sure I understand. The mouth is meant to be like an anime mouth, image
but maybe it would be better if I pronounced the lips a little less or something; smoothed them out? I personally like the anime side look if it’s subtle.

I din’t want the style to be too realistic, I love doing cartoony stuff. But maybe I could fix the side mouth a little idk.image
10th Dec 2018, 7:06 PM (Now I wish I wasn't the only one saying something about it - maybe it's just me?)

"The mouth is meant to be like an anime mouth,"

*falls over* That is indeed much worse than Kat's mouth in panel 1.

"but maybe it would be better if I pronounced the lips a little less or something; smoothed them out?"
YES!! I just covered the lips in the little image with my finger so that there's just a slightly curved line between nose and the chin and it's (IMHO) much better.

But that said: The shading in the two anime-screenshots looks noticeably simpler than yours, nothing wrong with that (I like animes, too) but tbh, I like your shading here (much) better: It creates some depth and lets arms look round and muscular. That said, of these two images, I like the one with the 4 girls much better, because the faces look like they should in profile view and no side-mouth "twists my perception".
Now THAT said:
"I personally like the anime side look if it’s subtle."
Well hmm... I like it less than the more realistic look, but if it's subtle (as in, no two mouths) it's OK.

But really, I'd like to know other opinions about it now. It could be just me.

(Also, I just tried to remove the lips and put a more or less straight line from under Kat's nose to her chin, but it exceeds my abilities. Sorry.)
10th Dec 2018, 8:56 PM Hey no problem!

And I appreciate the feedback, I think I understand what you’re saying. There are always ways that I can improve. And thank you for liking the shading it means a lot—I love to draw muscles, and for Kat this is actually important to her character
10th Dec 2018, 2:12 AM i read through today , before i didn't sorry im lazy. kat is happy yay. just like the she hulk in the back lol
10th Dec 2018, 2:23 AM Aw, thanks for reading!
10th Dec 2018, 5:39 AM Kat's so cool :D

Ethan (thinking) : "What are you...doing?! NANI"
10th Dec 2018, 8:57 PM Yeah he can be awkward with situations like this lol 😂
11th Dec 2018, 4:35 AM Why would she seem like a sap? She's young and dealing with a lot, past, present, and future. I think the reaction is perfectly believable.
11th Dec 2018, 4:54 AM Thank you. I guess some people are critical when you make girls emotional because that’s a stereotype. I’m not tryna stereotype anythin’ I’m just tryna make it real.
4th Apr 2019, 1:17 PM Hmm I wonder how old they are here, they already seem almost fully grown.
Nevermind I found the info on later pages :D
4th Apr 2019, 2:30 PM Ha, maybe I’m not that good at making the characters look different ages yet
8th Apr 2019, 9:02 PM I just have to say this perspective is very unique! You captured the feel perfectly!
8th Apr 2019, 10:15 PM Thank you so much!
7th Apr 2020, 3:29 AM I appreciate a heroine who doesn't mind letting her emotions pour out in front of those she loves. Really humanizes her.
7th Apr 2020, 4:05 AM I’m so glad!! Yeah Kat’s the all-or-nothing type, very genuine but can be a bit much for some characters to handle lol
