6th Nov 2021, 12:00 PMLet the montage begin!! This will be “sort of” a montage anyway…
Also I’m so sorry if that transition is jarring—sometimes I feel like I’m so focused on trying to keep the buffer afloat that I rush them a bit. I’ll try to improve!
Kairo sending Evan away to read while putting up with Kat’s shenanigans reminds me of babysitting multiple kids in the church nursery. “You’re bored? Well I’m a little busy right now…why don’t you go over there and read a book?”
They never wanted to read books though—sometimes I really wished they’d sit still for a few minutes lol. They only would for TV…and even then it was only for Paw Patrol usually. Good times! ;-)
6th Nov 2021, 1:19 PMYou really use the blur effects well. I still need to learn all that stuff with my new art equipment. What is that on Kairo's t-shirt? It feels like an eye hypnotizing me.
It’s just a weird random thing I slapped together—I was more thinking about colours than about what it actually is. My brothers told me it looks like Sauron’s eye, so I was like “Sure.”
6th Nov 2021, 2:31 PMya dun goofed, Kairo
...but yes, a big pile of homework is probably a good distraction to get Evan out of his own head for a while xD
6th Nov 2021, 3:40 PMI know this is hard and hard to watch, but I still think Kairo did the right thing. He may have had a better option, but I certainly didn't see it (and still don't).
I remember my stepfather once saying to me.. "My job isn't to be your best friend, my job is to teach you to deal with the outside world when you are on your own". I didn't appreciate that at 16, but by the time I was 25 I understood the wisdom of that.
6th Nov 2021, 5:17 PMYeah I don't necessarily think Kairo did the wrong thing (in the previous scene) either. And there's definitely some truth to what your relative told you at 16.
I feel like I should clarify though--it seems like people think that Kairo is flinching here because he feels bad for making Evan cry, and that's totally fair considering that did just happen.
But, while Kairo certainly takes no pleasure in a kid crying, I actually think he's flinching for a different reason that we'll get into more later in the chapter.
6th Nov 2021, 5:17 PMTextbooks about fighting is such a funny concept to me. Yeah just read "How To Punch Good" that'll get ya in shape XD
Totally understand the buffer struggle. This webcomic stuff is a delicate balance between quantity and quality, and we will never stop questioning whether we're doing it right :'D
You're doing fine, though. From what I can tell (through WIPs and whatnot on the forums and twitter) you've been cranking out pages like mad - on top of whatever else you've got going on in your life. Soooo yeah. Props to that!
6th Nov 2021, 6:20 PMThat’s hilarious X’D who knows? I bet it’s easy for him to use X-Ray vision for a sec without thinking, although I doubt he’d be comfortable using it a lot.
6th Nov 2021, 6:22 PMWell it’s a distraction if nothing else, heh. Evan does need to learn stuff to pass the training though, but the trauma won’t make it easy
7th Nov 2021, 10:24 AMI wonder what that book on the bottom is in Evan's hand. Good thing Kairo dodged that punch, because imagine what would've happened had it connected.
And curious to see your training montage and how you handle it.
7th Nov 2021, 10:44 AMI don’t know exactly what the book is, but yeah—I don’t know if every one of Kat’s punches would inadvertently explode, but they should be very careful.
Thanks, I’m looking forward to see how it all turns out too!
7th Nov 2021, 8:37 PMWhile we're on training montages, do you imagine any soundtracks playing for the upcoming training montage by any chance? For example I had the Last Jedi trailer's music playing for mine in ch 6 (so I made a rough production of what it might sound like), and a friend of mine was imagining Mulan's training music (original Disney animated, not the 2020 live action version).
8th Nov 2021, 6:51 AMHaha I LOVE the OG Mulan training soundtrack! I haven’t imagined any specific track that exists, but I think it would be closer to the Rocky training music, or something like the soundtrack that’s playing while Hiro upgrades Baymax with Karate programming in Big Hero 6.
7th Nov 2021, 6:01 PMReally liking this chapter so far :D . We're seeing them both reacting to different situations, oh cool I knew a Krav maga instructor, it's a pretty practical fighting style from what I've heard. Like its designed for street fights specifically rather than sport. I wonder how much Evan will garner from that studying hm. Like others said it's good he can get his mind off things
8th Nov 2021, 6:58 AMI’m so glad you like it! Yeah we’re going to see a lot of both Kat and Evan this chapter, I can’t wait—and I hope it all turns out okay, haha.
Ooh that’s so cool!! ✿*∗˵╰༼✪ᗜ✪༽╯˵∗*✿ I should really look into it more. It definitely sounds very practical from what little I know, I think it’s something used in certain countries’ military training.
It’s true, exercise and training is good for calming the mind. Evan needs a lot more than just that though, but at least it’s something!
11th Nov 2021, 8:19 PMHaha thanks! I did that to hopefully…make the transition from the book on the table to the book in his hands clearer. Transitions are hard lol
